‘Compost’ is a body of work where, by constructing the narrative within the mother-daughter relationship, I had unwittingly created scenes play out as I imagined my life would have. While the process of making the images was enriching and joyful, the past, present, and future collided in my psyche. The work I thought I was making when we began and where my subconscious ultimately led was profoundly startling. Loss, dreams, regrets, and grief. How does one carry absence? How do these spoils become endurable? In the end, it is a reckoning of an existence as a childless mother, culminating in the final image entitled, ‘What Could Have Been’.
